The ice cap is now thick enough so it does not break up under tide

action, but the high tide is strong enough to lift it and induce this

type of longitudinal shear.Thank you for your comment-Laurent

Of course the fury of winter has another side and I guess if you miss out on the bad, you have to miss out on the good as well. The vast expanse of ice and the equally frigid sky can't help but warm your soul with their beauty even as they chill your fingers and toes. I can imagine the wind would sweep with gusto over this long, exposed ice shelf. I hope they have heaters in those ice fishing huts.

That bit of philosophy is correct save for one thing;if it weren't so darn long! These shacks are insulated and all have propane heaters......story goes it gets so warm inside, some of these fishermen have to have cold beer to cope.Winds coming off the open sea and onto the harbour can be pretty violent and really felt not only in these shacks but in our houses;I live just around the corner where that treeline butts on shore.Thank you for the nice comment.

Meilleures salutations-Laurent
