LenMarriott 9 Posted February 22, 2001 I noticed this little guy from a pier. He looked awfully small & alone. I've tried to convey this by giving lots of space around him. How does this come across to you? Link to comment
markwilkins 0 Posted February 22, 2001 The real value of this photo is the graphic quality of the reflection, shadow, and boy against the gentle color gradient of the wet sand. Adding cluttery elements such as the cabana, nearby trees, resort buildings, lifeguard towers, surfers, waves, sun, clouds, beachtowels, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. will destroy it. We can't let THAT happen! Link to comment
helleman 0 Posted February 22, 2001 Crop out the rock at the top and its perfect. I keep looking up at that rock and we don't want that... Link to comment
markwilkins 0 Posted February 22, 2001 Went a little over-the-top. Anyway, I still think that a lower angle would not serve the photo. :-) Link to comment
jeff_moag1 0 Posted February 22, 2001 I think you hit it. I'd like to see a little more detail in the kid's shadowed features; that might be a scan issue. I really dig the shadow and reflection -- looked wrong to me at first. . Link to comment
kyle_m 0 Posted February 22, 2001 I think this would be interesing as a long horizontal image. Keep the reflection in the water and crop out the top quarter to one-third and do the same at the bottom. Actually, a polarizer to remove the reflection (or digital edit after exposure) while keeping the shadow, then cropping to a panorama might be interesting. Just my 2 cents. Link to comment
mark newcombe www.mcnphoto 0 Posted June 15, 2001 I'd love a shot of my kids just like it but if I managed to sneak that far away I think I'd keep running (hehehe). Seriously its great, try it in panorama in a nice frame and you'll sell it to most mothers around the world. Well done. Mark Link to comment
jed goode 0 Posted June 29, 2001 I like the contrast between the small child and the large empty space of the image. The reflection and shaddow are wonderful, you chose the right angle to get them. I agree with Aaron though, lose the rock at the top. Very good image. (7/6) Link to comment
marc1 0 Posted October 6, 2001 cracking shot, i almost feel sorry for him, it looks as hes lost his mom or dad, well caught Link to comment
gerry_clarke 0 Posted October 31, 2001 There are too many photos at his site of cute children, but I do like this one good work. Link to comment
david d. 0 Posted January 18, 2002 I like this shot as it is simple, clean and potrays the kid as lost and alone almost. I agree with the comment above to crop the rock from the top of the shot. Overall I like this a lot. Link to comment
slywrath 0 Posted December 11, 2003 I look at this shot and I wonder how long that poor little boy has been standing there. There are no footprints anywhere around him which to me adds even more to the idea of being totaly alone. There haven't even been any passers by. Great shot!!! When I look at it I feel isolated and alone myself. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted December 11, 2003 Michael, Interesting observation, the sense of loneliness. The beach was very wet & the sand beneath very hard, thus the lack of footprints. The boy didn't stand there all that long & Mom & Dad were closer than one would guess. Best, LM. Link to comment
navarra 0 Posted December 28, 2003 I love this picture. Usually I prefer to place the subject nearer to a corner in such images. Simone Link to comment
