Thanks Dick! The illuminated part of the moon was photographed using a telescope as a lens (the equivalent of a 1260mm focal length lens, which on the APS-C sensor becomes about a 2000mm lens), with a Rebel t3i body. The telescope has a motor drive so it follows the moon across the sky. I probably shot about 100 shots, and after experimenting with stacking them with no luck, finally decided just to pick the sharpest frame of the 100.  The background stars were photographed from a rural location with the T3i on a tripod and about a 50mm lens. Then, using Paint Shop Pro, I put the moon on one layer, the stars on another, and used a vector layer to create a black circle to provide the other half of the moon. I did a few curves adjustments and a bit of sharpening, but that was it. Cheers, Scott

Thanks very much Peter!!! We are so tiny. I one read that if you hold your hand at arm's length, and hold up your smallest finger, the area of sky covered by your fingernail has approx. 18 million galaxies behind it, each with over 100 billion stars. That's all behind one fingernail.
