Before I read the comments, I was thinking I really like the soft focus -- it suits the composition quite well.  Les and I see this one differently.

Hello Frederick

Very nice portrait. I like the tones, pose, lighting and detail and softness. The only thing I might suggest are the two hot spots that draw my eye away from the subject. I highlighted them. Just my 2 cents.
