I remember this setting right away from the very first photo of yours that I commented on (this one), a few years back. I was impressed by the strong zig-zag graphics & lines, as well as the high contrasts in your (vertical) composition then. This has an altogether different feel & not only because it was done in color, I believe. It feels more subtle overall, with a bit less graphic impact perhaps. You seem to have taken this from a slightly higher vantage point..? The full inclusion of the ground-floor seems to fit this rendering well. Nice one, Andrea.

I was interested to see the other picture that Marjolene referred to. It is quite interesting to me that you can get such a different feel in two pictures of the same site. It is certainly a good demonstration that photographers don't just capture reality. You encourage me to think of doing multiple pictures of one site. thanks. ed

mar, ruud, ed, ciao and thanks. about the place, yes, is a place that for me is intriguing. i try always to obtain something good there, but it seems difficult. the stairs brings from the hebraic quarter, that has a very quite atmosphere and few turists, to an archeologic area very busy and turistic. but for now is impossible to read all this in that photos. but life is long....

Andrea,

Your image is interesting at different levels of interpretation.  It is technically well structured and the harsh lighting works well for its specific purpose.  The only green plants in this environment are sadly confined to pots while the ten people ( passers by) caught in this photograph are just incidental for a documentary shot and I feel you took a space that is dominated with vertical bars of the protective hand rails which give a sense of imprisonment.  In some ways the viewer is challenged and also made to question why all these barred windows and what's that building in the background about? .  Stimulating and impressive work!  Best wishes,

This to me evokes the different stages of life as we move from birth to the grave, all of us on different but also the same path. Dantesque perhaps :=}

 A marvelous image!
