Nice black and white with good contrast and focus. Was this originally taken in color? If so, how does it compare to the b & w? Looks like the image is taken in low angled sun with a dark shady background. You could also clone out that twig or stick in the right background, it draws the eye and adds nothing to the composition.

Yes, this was from a 14-bit RAW color original, converted in Aperture 3, which I have been experimenting with since Christmas.  I agree about the stick and thought about cloning it out last night.  That can be my next step.

I'm just getting used to the retouching tools in this version, which are much improved over Aperture 2.

I'm working on a new MacBook Pro with the retina display, which has spioled me tremendously and makes these uploads look degraded.
