Magnificent Tm! You got really close on this one, lots of good detail. Like the coordination of the color of the perch with the bird's coloring. Really like the bird's left wing and beak and head in the plane of the perch with body perpendicular. Great background! Happy holidays to you! Best regards

Thanks Phil! Good to hear from you.

Thanks James! The 2X TC series III from Canon is very good and it works well with this 200mm F2 lens since that only double up to F4 which means all the auto focus points still work for all Canon bodies (even though it does not mater to me since I use only 1 single center focust point and the 1D III body - which will work even for F8 lens situation like the 500mm F4 + 2X TC).

Thanks for stopping by Gail, good to hear from you. Don't know what exactly  you had picked up but for me, before I bought the 1.4 extender it was just confusion. Here's how Canon extender works, any time the extender pushes the f-stop to F8 then none of the Canon bodies below 1D will auto focus. For the 1D series (1D II, 1D III, 1D IV , 1DX ...ect) will focus with 1 single center point. For example, my 500mm F4 + 2X TC III will give me 1 single focus point with the 1D Mark III but I have to manual focus with the 5D Mark II.

Because of that limitation, this 200mm F2 lens is wonderful since I can put a 2X TC on it and it will auto focus on both Canon bodies that I own (5D II & 1D III). However, at the $5,999 price the 200mm F2 costs as much as what I paid for my 500mm F4 IS . Great lens as a loaner but unless I can make some money with this 200mm F2 lens, it won't be in my camera bag. :-)

Very nice color and sharpness, especially considering you used a 2x.  I would love the lens, but not worth 6 grand to me.

Tm J,

I know, I know, . . . I really miss the AF capabilities of my EOS3 with my 100-400 coupled to the 1.4X TC compared to the "non-existant AF" with the 50D, even at f/8 with center point selection!

Still, this is one of the better results I've seen with a 2X TC, but again, not worth the 6 grand plus combination!

I'm on the cheap, . . . that's why I have the 100-400 I suppose!

Regards always,

Jim j.

Thanks Monte! For some reason, I like this lens more than my 500mm F4 and that's because it's versatile/ easy to maneuver but 6K is a lot for 200mm :-)

Thanks James! I am with you and still have my 100-400mm but after shooting with this I may test the 70-200mm F2.8 with the 2X and see if that may be a better alternative. Nothing against the 100-400mm but ... the grass is always greener next door :-)
