With renown Diamond Head as a backdrop, this elderly gentleman frequents

the Magic Island Park in the mornings to feed the birds. He is quite obviously

down on his luck, but finds pleasure in this simple activity.

Nice little story told here. I like the composition. I might suggest a rework of the pp. The image is quite contrasty. The histogram shows blocked up darks and blown highlights. The photo is also ever so slightly sloping down to the left.

Regards

I like the image. It tells a nice story. I think a good alternative version of this would be a crop keeping the width and cutting off the top just below the tilted "horizon". That would get rid of the horizon, which to me is distracting, and concentrate the viewer's attention on what to me is the main draw of this image- the man feeding the birds. I like the conversion and tonal qualities of the image too.

I like the suggestion for the crop but then it would have a somewhat altered story. I quite like the somewhat more complex story you choose to tell with the fuller image.

Thanks to everyone for the input.  The slightly sloped horizon definitely slipped by me.   I was torn about whether I should include Diamond Head or not.   The story is the man with the birds.  But the setting, for me, was part of the story.  The incomprehensible wealth of the"Gold Coast" condominiums and hotels in the background contrasting with this fellow who is at peace feeding the birds.  Who knows how he feeds himself?  I have a eye for irony and this struck me.

I went back and looked at this again, thought about the horizon. That it's not level is distracting. And there are ways to fix it that you are probably aware of: You could rotate the image to level the horizon and crop it to suit yourself and you can (if you have Photoshop) use edit/transform/distort and drag the uppper left corner upward until the horizon is level. Not sure you have any interest in tweaking your images like that, but I do it regularly. I'm attaching a modified version to this comment that I worked on a little. Hopefully you'll find it interesting/useful.
