The Devil's Golf Course is a large salt pan on the floor of Death Valley,

It was named after a line in the 1934 National Park Service guide book to

Death Valley National Monument, which stated that "Only the devil could

play golf" on its surface, due to a rough texture from the large halite salt

crystal formations. The salt in the Devil's Golf Course consists of the

minerals that were dissolved in the lake's water and left behind in the

Badwater Basin as the lake evaporated. With an elevation several feet

above the valley floor at Badwater, the Devil's Golf Course remains dry,

allowing weathering processes to sculpt the salt there into complicated

forms (Wikipedia). Thank you for viewing and please click image to view

We've been here, but unfortunately it was during the bright part of the day.  It's a remarkable place, and you've picked the perfect time to shoot.  Great detail, and contrasting colors with a nice low perspective.  Nicely done!

Lester, You have made very intense colors, and it is beautiful. Sunlight from behind, and a blue ingredient (added ?) to the background have made a nice affect.

Interesting light from foreground to background, and I think it works well.  You also chose a low perspective that works well.  This is far enough from the main road that overnight camping is permitted on the several pull-outs, but when I was here it was so windy that I was worried about my camper being blown over.  I'll try again next year.

Hi Lester,   Death Valley is on my list of national parks to visit that I don't know if we'll ever get to; I hope so.  This is a most effective image.  I agree with all of the other positive comments.  Congratulations.  Larry

Ruud, Joao, Maurizio,

Thanks for your remarks.

Christal,

The sun has risen at about this time however this area was only partially lighted since the sunlight was still being covered by the mountains. Thanks for dropping by.

Dan & Phil,

Thank you for liking my rendition. Yes, I had a reverse GND in front of my lens.

Stephen,

By the time we got here it was not windy anymore but yes, our time spent at the Badwater Basin previous to this which is just nearby was chilly and windy that toppled even our tripods left alone standing. Going to these two places required us to wake up at 4 am and be there to await sunrise. I would suggest a stay overnight at Furnace Creek rather than camping since it would be just a 20 minute ride to the Badwater Basin and the Devil's Golf Course. Thanks for your observations.

Larry & Giuseppe,

My first visit to this place was very rewarding. Thanks to Jim Fox http://www.pbase.com/jimfoxphotography, without whom our trip would not have been possible. Our plan to photograph these places was made with careful planning and precise time management with his presence.
