Richard, I really like the combination of the trees and the building (a rural school or church?).  To my eyes, that's the main subject, and the open space to the left (behind the building, and that's important) doesn't add as much, IMO.  For that reason, I'd consider a crop that really puts the viewer's attention on the trees and building.  The downside of that is you would lose some of the variation in the sky.  Had the open space been on the right, I don't think I'd be suggesting a crop, because that space in front of the building would add context and not appear so much to be an afterthought.  Those look like round silos behind the trees; have you tried to work them and the road more strongly into the composition (although that would diminish the angle to the building and the light on the front, and that would be a loss)?  Or what about a composition with just the building and the trees behind it, taken by moving forward and near the trees on the right?  So many possibilities with good trees and an interesting building on a slight rise like this, and I'll bet you've tried a number of them.

WOW, thank you for your extensive thoughts and ideas on this image and yes I moved around to get a variety of captures for this old schoolhouse, now defunct. I always try to use as much negative space as possible to simplify the image but my eye was take by the suble light in the grasses in the forground which probably doesn't show as well in bw. We lose the light very rapidlly here this time of year with the time change and all.  Your perspective are very incitefull and helpful, keeep 'em coming.
