The Island of Maui, Hawaii. I am at the 8,000 foot elevation of Haleakala,

Maui’s largest mountain, facing West Maui. The more populated isthmus is

well lit, with Lahaina the distant glow. The island of Molokai is faintly visible at

left.

Wonderful perspective at that height, the cloud below giving a sense of the sheer huge scale!  The larger view is imperative to enjoy this fully, it brings it all to life. The warm glow of the city lights against the nioght sky makes for a beautiful contrast, but I can't help wonder if you managed to get a shot in another direction with no light pollution?  As the night sky is vivid, even allowing for the cloud.

Nice work Dominick!

Best Regards

Hi Alf,  Thanks as always for commenting.   My trip to the mountaintop that night was to look for meteorites as a shower was predicted.  And, I keep hoping to put together a Milky Way panorama.  However, the high level clouds you see in the photo were more dense behind me, so this photo was  just about the only thing I could see.

Above and behind me is "Science City" where there are many telescopes both for military and scientific purposes.  The thin air at 10,000 feet near the equator makes for a brilliant, crisp, and clear sky.  Aloha.
