Please view large. I've had this image around for a few years and thought it

might be an appropriate omen for winter in our Northland. Caring for the

ducks and geese that decide to winter with us is a tribute to the

community. And, Lake Minnetonka is one of the wonders of the

Minneapolis metro area. As always, thanks for taking the time to

comment. Larry

After reading Grayhams comment I clicked on the image and I do have to concur with his views (I don't like to agree him too much he gets very uppity) lol

But seriously, at first glance I wasn't impressed with the composition, it seemed as though the foreground presented a barrier of sorts. But then as I viewed it larger the "barrier" became a podium from which to view the rest of the image as well as contributing interest in the form of its own detail and textures. I love the muted winter colours and the atmosphere that it conveys! It's certainly not what I'd describe as a classic or typical composition, but when viewed larger I think it really works well and for that  you must be congratulated!

Compliments!

Grayham and Alf

I appreciate your kudos and compliments and am pleased to offer you a platform for concurrence (LOL).   Seriously, this is an old image that I pulled out and tweaked a bit.  I muted the trees, and background a bit to give such a crisp image a softer feeling.  Alf, I hadn't thought of it your way, but agree that the pier does serve as a podium for viewing the image.  Of course, that's what it is standing on it and viewing the lake.  Thanks to you both.

Hi Larry- Wonderfully captured & expertly processed.Like how the eyes follow the walk way & then pick up the red fence taking in the ducks & the pilings , finally following the distant shoreline in the background & then starting all over , occasionly stopping to examine some particular detail. If you desire to pick up all detail you have to go large. Best Regards-Ross

Pat and Ross,  Thanks for your visits and your compliments.  This is one of those down the street in the neighborhood images that we often don't bother taking because of its commonness.  I am learning that with images local is good just like with groceries.  Best to you both.  Larry

Excellent composition with the posts in line and also serve as a very good foreground which give perspective view.  Also love other posts as the mid ground with the birds in the water.  The "red" nets in a very good diagonal line.  It is very sharp and natural.  Love it. Best Regards,

Wanghan,  Thanks for your visits.  The part of the lake on the inside of the red plastic fence is heated so that it is open for ducks and geese that don't fly south in the winter.  Best to you.  Stay warm.  Larry
