hjoseph7 1,492 Posted November 25, 2012 Is there a particular reason why this picture is in landscape mode instead of portrait mode ? Link to comment
vancouverphotographer 0 Posted November 25, 2012 Hi Harry, yes but you cannot readily see it because of the tight composition ... she's lying in one of those vintage bathtubs at this old hotel. Link to comment
jerrymat 3 Posted November 26, 2012 Dale, I guess, that if she is in a bathtub, she might better be clothed for bathing (that is unclothed). I too first thought you had tipped the photograph. With my next comment I show my age and inability to adjust: Those little jewels of her piercings look like an advanced case of acne! Makes her most unappealing. (And yes, I hope you do show this comment to her!)Jerry Link to comment
JohnWebster 2 Posted November 26, 2012 If she were horizontal her hair would be falling towards the bottom of the frame and that is clearly not what is going on here so, in my opinion, this is a vertical. Your model has potential and this image shows a sincere effort on your part. I see you are experimenting with digital manipulation---keep at it because the more you do the more familiar you will become the the tools and possibilities. Perfecting the digital capture and post-processing takes years of learning and experience and you have taken the first steps. This image may be a memory trigger for you with the bathtub and all but that is not what the viewer sees. I removed anything that I believe takes away from the strength of your portrait and changed the pose of her right hand and arm. Photography is a visual language and you should use only the "words" that communicate your idea to the viewer. Good luck and keep at it! Link to comment
vancouverphotographer 0 Posted November 27, 2012 Jerry and John, hey thanks for the feedback, guys. Yeah I think I was there shooting it so the image made more sense to me because I was aware of the context of it. I think I should have gone wider on the shot.Jerry, piercings, tattoos ... they're getting to be closer to the norm now that in the old days when I was growing up. That's what the younger generation likes these days. I think when my friend got an earring back when we were younger, I don't think his parents thought it was cool but I think our friends thought it was cool.John, I appreciate the time you took to show me alternatives with the photo, looks good - I don't think I can do that in photoshop though. I rarely do too much in post processing though, not much time and not much skill to do it beyond some basic setting changes that I have to do to the raw files. Link to comment
