I have posted a series of three images taken with a Samsung P & S.

Other than a some very slight sharpening and cropping on one of

them (Lindasfarne) there has been no alterations to the images. This

is how they came out of the camera.

I can't claim any credit for these images, I just pointed this tiny

contraption in the general direction of the scenes I wanted to capture

and this is the result.

But I thought they were worth posting as I was quite impressed at the

quality of the images

Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated. Thank You.

An excellent shot well composed Alf! I like how the singular bird is echoed by the object out at sea.

All the best,
Neil

This is probably my least favorite of the 3, at least as far as the P&S's performance is concerned.   I get the sense that in person you saw more range of colors and drama in the sky.  Perhaps not.  Still, none of the clouds are overexposed, so it provided you with a decent exposure.  Quite admirable.

Beautiful result. You see, sometime soon our DSLR-s will end up as nostalgic museum items (at least unless you want to make a big print, but even there it seems there are winds of change blowing...). And we just hardly got used to them...

The quality of shots from point and shoot cameras these days is really good. I carry a little P&S every morning when I walk my dogs on the beach and I truly believe that some of my best shots were taken, at that time, with the little camera. I like this shot very much. Great sky!

"Alone" I think, after all birds do have that choice, to find a remote perch from which to reflect and view the world, or gather in large colonies amongst the din and commotion of the flock.

The bird was there (if indeed it was the same bird) every morning when we strolled along the beach at dawn.  I was quite envious.

Many Thanks for stopping by and posing the opening question Donna.

Many thanks for your thoughts and interest, much appreciated!  The object is a small fishing boat on the distant horizon, but it was the different cloud textures that attracted me to take the shot.

To be honest the sky didn't look as interesting to the naked eye, but the camera seemed to pick up the different levels of light and texture variation, of course I could have accentuated this more in photoshop, but the idea was to allow a view of what the camera produced without any manipulation.

It's interesting to read your views about this, thank you for the great feedback!

Many Thanks, I thought the cloud definition was quite good too.

Even the composiiton is made easier with these little P & S this one has grid lines on the screen so that its quite easy to keep the image level. But yeah I thought the sky was quite something.

Many Thanks & Best Regards

Wise words my friend!

I keep toying with the idea of buying a D800 but every time I do, I get a great feeling of tightness in my wallet along with the underlying thought that very soon one of the big names are going to bring out a full frame camera that will fit in my pocket!

I think the D800 will win in the end though, I just can't wait that long : - )

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Tibi!

Ahhh what a blissful life walking the dogs on the beach every morning.  Thats is exactly what I was doing when I took this shot.

Unfortunately I don't get to do walk on the beach every morning, but we did for a week on Holiday in Alnmouth, Northumberland. I can recommend that place for a visit too Pat. And it is a very dog frinedly place, in fact every pub welcomes dogs, and the scenery and castles etc ......well suffice to say theres a lot to photograph!

They are great little cameras, and I believe the image quality will get better and better as technology moves on.

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated!

A nice shot. I love the sky , textured colorful clouds and its special composition with shadowy bird on post. Its simple, yet very effective and pleasing. Is the dark border in lower part some part of the sea with the shadow of a ship? If so, you artfully used it a place to frame the shot and write your signature!

My best regards,

Hamid.

Yes, you have read the image perfectly. The border at the bottom  is indeed a part of the sea and the shadow / silhouette is a fishing boat. It was the clouds that appealed to me also, but the camera made them appear more accentuated than they really were. Almost as though it optimised and processed the image in camera.  I did nothing by way of processing.

Sincere thanks for sharing your thoughts and positive feedback Hamid!

Hi Alf. If you hadn't explained that this was a P & S shot - I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference! Again - right time of day and right light is what made this a great shot so basically it's just good old fashioned photography! Much can be perfected in Photoshop so great to see this as is!

Best wishes. Sarah.

Many Thanks for stopping by and leaving your most encouraging comments.

I was quite surprised at the results from this little camera, not every shot was like this of course,  and your analogy is quite correct, much depended on light and conditions.  But suffice to say I was pleased with the results.

Cheers Sarah!
