Look to the rock wall behind and to the right of the model. Many faces of

spirits or ancestors (model is Native American) are looking on. Can you

see the obvious ones? Look for less obvious and more symbolic ones)

Reply to Hans-Peter,

When Christopher Columbus discovered the new world, he thought he had traveled to the west as far as India.  He did not realize that the American continents intervened.  Therefore he mistakenly called the pre-European peoples by the term "Indians."  They, of course, are not citizens of India, but are pre-Europeans or as Canada now calls them "First Nations."  The U.S. has not adopted that term and uninformed people still call natives of this continent by the mistaken term denoting citizenship in a foreign country.

Once when I taught at Seattle School's Homeschool Resource Center, we had a round table where each of 13 students explained his/her background, his religion (the class had asked about atheism vs. religion), ethnicity and anything else s/he wanted to tell us, especially about gripes and unfairnesses.

One young man, who had almost never said anything in class, explained to us he was a native of this continent, that the Great Spirit had put his ancestors here and that the damned historians lied when they said his people migrated from Asia over a mythical land bridge.  He was especially adamant that he was not an "Indian."  I asked him, how he and his family called their ethnic heritage and he said that only a word in his family's native tongue expressed it, but that in English he was fine with being called a Native American.  I have referred to people of his heritage by that term ever since.

The model in this image told me that she was more than 90% Native American and we did several pictures where faces of her ancestors were watching her.  You might want to look also at the image I have posted at http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7825746  In the mountain picture she has her original black hair but in the picture shown here she has dyed it red.  (I guess women of all races like to change themselves)

People are e-mailing me asking where the faces are.  Here is a copy of the image where I have marked the eyes white in 17 faces.

I don't know about seeing sprits my friend but I do know that I wished I had such a marvelous place close by to make environmental nudes. A most beautiful image Jerry and I like it very much!

Cheers, Raymond
