The photo is truely beautiful, love the play of light and shadow.

But maybe it's just my perception, but this photo is also about something quite not as beatuiful (in my view). Last time I was in Rome (nov. '11), there were quite a lot of homeless people near the Vatican. I found the contrast between them searching a warm place to sleep and that huge, beautiful and rich church rather hard and difficult.

This photo reminds me of that. In one of the big centres of christianity, somebody being very alone. There is something bitter about it.

Maybe my interpretation is all wrong, but it is what I see. And to me, it makes this photo more profound, more valuable and more important than "just" a very good photo of the S. Pietro.
