Stephen,

Many thanks for your thoughts and comments on my cemetery fog shot....I can see now what caught your eye!  I love looking at your portfolio and am certainly envious of your talent.

Diane, Lynne, and Wagnhan, thanks for your comments.  I think many shots done in dense fog will appear to be high key.  I could have legitimately lightened this one as well -- it's hard to determine where the exposure "ought" to be.  I did darken the cross slightly in my processing.

I like, that despite high-key look it conveys an atmosphere of grief - which we usually (at least in western culture) we connect to darkness / low-key.

Lovely work with strong emotive qualities; very sad and lonely... still. I can almost hear the muffled sounds and feel the disorientation I seem to have when I am in heavy fog. Excellent work. Thank you for sharing. :)

Trisha, thanks for your comment.  This pioneer cemetery is located far from anything, and it's surrounded for many miles by little more than wheat fields.  It is indeed a lonely place.

Nicely done, I like this one a lot.  The rigid structure of the cross pairs well with the loose flowing structure of the clump of saplings. The mid grey adds a hint of melancholy which suites the scene.

This is one of my question from long time ago,how is better to work this kind of dense fog?,because seems to me all the time that is high key and not sure about it when is done.I think same time that this must be so as the eyes saw it.I like how you composed this and fact you darken a bit the cross is a good point to balance this composition imo.Winter element that always catch my eyes is frost that is fragile and delicate and gives a special atmosphere even for a simple shrub,Most I like here is that foreground frost is a bit white than rest of image, there are three distinctive elements with different grey tones ,shrub in foreground, the cross, the tree and this creates a nice perspective.

ps.I forgot to ask,did you worked this with silverefex pro?

Radu, this is not a typical "fog picture" for me.  I usually like to have something well defined in the foreground, with the background fading into dense fog.  That's the main reason why I darkened the cross somewhat; otherwise, everything was too similar in tone.  And yes, I used Nik's Silver Efex Pro 2 software to do the B&W conversion (there was hardly any color at all in the original -- just a spot of color in the artificial flowers someone had placed on the side of the cross).
