The first touches of direct sunlight were just catching the foreground

as I arrived, and I quickly took a few shots before it became too

bright. This was one of the first. Your thoughts and comments are

always appreciated Thank You.

A beautiful setting Alf!  The clear water, reflection, and perfect clouds draw one into the scene.

A crisp morning, Alf, with the last of the morning mists reflected in the clear waters gathered in shallows and crevices of this ruggedly beautiful terrain; A finely balanced composition of nature's works.

Very pretty in a rugged sort of way, I would love to see a panorama of this place. There is so much interest and detail for the eye to take in from front to back. Lovely natural colors and beautiful reflection.

Warmest regards, Pamela

Ysblennydd!  Well worth the early rise, beautiful soft light, your trademark clarity and perfect reflections.  What do you think about dodging the mid-tones a tad from the large foreground rock up to the top left cloud.  I recognize this is probably in shadow, but my eyes keep wandering over there looking for more detail. Regardless, I feel like I'm there and that's my hallmark of a grand landscape... Mike

Everything is there, grass, mountains, pond, lights and shadows and sky with white clouds! Well done Alf (as always)!

Hi Alf. Not sure how you do it but everything is extraordinary crystal clear! The reflections are superb and once again it's all beautifully composed. There is always much to admire about your work. Best wishes. Sarah.

Fresh colors, neat composition (as you always have) and excellent detail. You have a super sharp lens.

The light is spot on and it's great to see the sky with so much definition, it's usually grey when I go there ! Lovely shot of Y Garn and it's reflection in the waters of Cwm Idwal.

As with your other image of this place Alf, I find it totally mesmerizing. Beauty that speaks to my heart, and nothing like I have ever seen before. I see an image such as this and the first words that come to my mind are 'I  WEEP' - 'I WEEP in the PRESENCE OF BEAUTY'. Of course technically I have nothing to add, as I am not experienced in any way with 'Landscape'. But I am grateful that I can come to your Portfolio and see your world in a way that I never would otherwise. THANKYOU. Most Humbly, Gail

Many Thanks for you thoughts and posiitve feedback, much appreciated!

It was one of those summer mornings, no wind, and the mist just lifted off the water and just being there made me feel priviledged just to be alive!

Of course I didn't feel quite that way when I forced myself to get out of bed two and a half hours earlier, but glad I resisted the temptation to turn over and gp back to sleep.

Cheers Dominick!

I think there had been heavy rain the day before, and the air quality was great, very clear and yes crisp!

You described it perfectly as "ruggedly beautiful terrain"

Sincere Thanks for your invaluable feedback. much appreciated!

You may remember this place covered in snow and recall the tale of me standing in the water taking the photo in my neoprene wellies : - )

Well yes, its the very same place, albeit from a slightly different angle.  It's quite rare to get the lake ( the bowl of an old glacier)  with no wind ripples.

I actuallly won a P & S camera that takes great panoramic shots but I never think to use it.  However next time I go there I shall male it a priority, because the view is breath taking in all directions.

Sincere Thanks & Warm Regards

I think you are trying to converse in Welsh, but Its a language that is as alien to me as Ancient Mandarin : - )

Even though I work  in North Wales the complexity of the language baffles me.  I have picked up a few words, but John Roberts who has commented too, is a true welshman, (and he has some great photo's of the area too) and as such he should be able to decipher it : - )

Your suggestion has good merit Mike, but I have already opened up the shadows to some extent, and thought that any more might start to look a bit errm HDRish ?

Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback Mike, very much appreciated!

Many Thanks for your great enthusiasm and feedback, much appreciated.

I was very fortunate to encounter the lake in such calm conditions, it can be quite a hostile environment at times.

Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback.

The Nikon 14 -24 mm lens is an impressive tool, it is very sharp corner to corner, which helps a lot.

Many Thanks for your thoughts and encouraging feedback, much appreciated.

The clarity is a combination of weather, light, equipment and upload process.

When you get a moment email me and I'll try and explain the upload process.

Sincere thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback.

You are right, the Nikkor 14 - 24 mm F2.8 is very sharp corner to corner. I recently had one of my images printed (Sunday Rest) the one with the old boat.  I had it printed by "Cosco" (who incidentally made a brilliant job of it) and it is 36" x 24" so quite large, and the detail is very pleasing.

Of course there are disadvantages too, it weighs a ton and doesn't readilly take filters. But it is a fantastic lens for landscapes.

Cheers Tibi!

Many Thanks for your thoughts and kind words, much appreciated!

Yes, I know just what you mean, the place is seldom so hospitable.  But always very beautiful, it is one of my favourite places on all of this earth.

I marvel at the way you can remember the names of all the mountains!

Cheers John!

Wow! your response is very gratifying to read. Because it echo's my own feelings when I behold such a scene, and the fact that I have been able to convey that same aspect of beauty is such a buzz for me!

When I viewed this place I was torn between capturing the moment on camera, and doing absolutely nothing but stand very still and drink it all in.  After a few seconds (that could easilly have been minutes) of standing there mesmerised and motionless, I managed to break the spell and sprang into action, taking many shots thereafter.

And of course it is I that should convey my Sincere Thanks to you, for taking the time to look and see it as I did.

Thank You & Best Regards

Alf

MIKE P

Many Thanks for your interest and kind words.

You may have noticed that I used F8 for this scene, which is probably acceptable from a quality POV but maybe not optimum. The reason for this was the DOF and the proximity of the foreground grasses that I wanted to keep sharp. Without the foreground I reckon I could have used F4.

Cheers Mike!

except that the bottom is cut off. i think your height and distance were great, so i would have liked a wider lens. best, j

Brilliant. Little daubs of light like a master painter at work; the perfectly still water provides the perfect reflection. Would a Caribbean lady who has just broken her relationship with a loved one be sitting nearby contemplating that this scene is too beautiful to end it all.  Especially to the strains of  Bob Marley's :No woman, No cry" flowing through her entire being.  All of this i can credit to your image.

You might argue that this is a 'European' scene.  However, there are  places named Argyle and Brighton in a Caribbean island given by 'the British' because it reminded them of places in their home country.

Keep up the good work.

Admiring this another great landscape image of yours, Alf, I had a vision of an Atlas of the country illustrated with your wonderful pictures with your descriptions and thoughts, and experienses (I cannot believe, but every time I see your picture I think of a book .... I think I am carried away by the quality and the beauty of your works.:) ) All the best, Tamara

You can't beat early morning for wonderful reflections - not that I see too many of them! But this is lovely. Great colours too!

You are right, I am drawn to landscapes, and indeed they can be challenging. But I like to weigh the odds on my side by catching the early morning, or late evening light. It becomes much more challenging in the middle of the day.

As for "complex" well, its a matter of looking through the viewfinder and moving around, backwards forwards and sideways until I reach the optimum position, before I place the camera on the tripod, surprising how much difference a few yards can sometimes make.

Sincere Thanks Wayne.

WANGHAN

I did take a few shots some 15 minutes earlier, but surprisingly the mist made the shot look too cluttered and unbalanced.

Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback Wanghan.

JAMIE

Many Thanks!

They don't come much wider than the Nikkor 14 - 24 mm on a full frame camera. But of course there are fish eye lenses, and there was the other option of a Portrait orientated shot that would capture more foreground. (I must check and see if I took one)  I was standing on a slight rise and the grassy bank in front is sloping downwards to the water.

Cheers Jamie!

TONY

The little raised tufts of grass were catching the light as the sun moved up a notch higher, and thats one of the things that attracted me to take the shot from that particular position. Very often I get a lot closer to the water and make the foreground rocks the dominant feature.

It is interesting the naming of the places in the Carribean given by the British, they seem to have done this on an almost world wide scale.

This could also be the place that a man who's wife has left him would sit and ponder.  She left and took his Bob Marley CD collection and the Sattelite Box too.  Head in hands he sings to himself  " No Woman, No Sky"  : - )   OK I know, my jokes get worse!

Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful analogy Tony, it is always a pleasure to read your thoughts and impressions.

TAMARA

I keep promising myself to start that book soon!

I have decided too, that initially I will create an online version and your mention of an Atlas has just added another element to the format it will eventually take. I am extremely limited in the amount of travel time I have available at the moment, as I work full time. But I have quite a lot of material to start with, that will keep me busy initially.

Sincere Thans for your thoughts and posiitve feedback Tamara, very much appreciated!

PAT

Early morning is for me, the best time of the day, but it doesn't last very long!  The softer light is the main ingredient of most early morning shots, but here it was mid summer and already it was quite strong at 6.30 am  But I managed to get this one and a few more before it was too bright.

Many Thanks for your thoughts and kind words Pat.
