Is this man oiffering a sacrifice to the gods, or is he just tossing a

heavy machine part to be placed on the spindle below so he can

mount a tire in a tire shop? Notice his strong, wiry hands. Your

ratings, comments and observations are invited and most welcome.

If you rate harshly, very critically, or wish to make a remark, please

submit a helpful and constructive comment; please share your

photographic knowledge to help improve my photography. Thanks!

Enjoy! john

Very strong composition. The shot is conceived very confidently and with great awareness. Like a tilted Y with the man's chest as the focal point. Works brilliantly for me. My compliments, John.

This shot was taken while this man worked at a 'mile a minute' with some of the fastest hands I've seen outside of a pro basketball player.

Notice the locking piece which spins down atop the wheel on the spindle is literally airborne and is supported by neither hand as he is tossing it from hand to hand, ready to drop it on to the spindle!

I had to take photos, in very dark circumstances, and get compositions, while this man stopped for no one or anything during his repairs/installation.

It was a fun challenge -- one I'd be glad to repeat.

Thanks for the compliment.

This photo is 'gritty' in the extreme, I feel.

At the same time, I feel its composition makes it 'pretty' and therefore one I'm proud of.

Think about the composition and how it 'works' or 'doesn't work' and why, despite the grittiness of the capture, and that may be why some find it compelling (me at least) ;~))

Consider this analysis:  This is partially a photo about rays of light and the lines made by them.

Each fluorescent light makes a line that leads toward a center but is obscured before they join.

The spindle of the tire mounting machine reaches upward, reflectively, but ends naturally without reaching the other lines.

Each arm is bright and light; one elbow is roughly at the focus of a center of a 'ray' of the lights but it is darker, while the other, more off center, is another ray which does not draw away from the idea that this is a photo about 'rays of light' or 'lines of light' all emanating from an obscured place somewhere near the upper center of the photo.

That's one way I look at it.

Of course, I also look at his wiry arms and his sinewy right hand and his thin body and think 'this guy is powerful' and this is a photo not only about lines (his body also is one) but about human power or power potential expressed through his bones, ligaments and tendons in his hands and the bulging muscles and veins in his arms . . . . adding detail to the line of his right arm.

That's why I posted it.
