Awakening / L'éveil

We stopped over at the house of friends located on the river that leads to

the ocean, awakening to a bright morning and anticipate pleasure. The old

house absorbed light in away that belied its limited number of windows.

The light and tones caught my eye immediately. Very symbolic imagery, and the composition seems to fit the theme perfectly. The geometry and lines are just lovely, well seen!!

Nicole, I very much appreciate your comments. The lines are fun and the central placement of the camera avoided undue distorted perspective of the subject elements. For an old house with few windows, I was surprised at the play of light, seen after crawling out of bed after an overnight in the far room of my friends recently acquired property.

Jack, thank you for your comment. I was taken by the simple beauty of this modest old house and was lucky that the lighting complied to give it an inviting appearance and made the color to B&W conversion reasonably successful. My friends made a very good acquisition, and at reasonable rural prices. I hope that my documentation of their house may add to their pleasure. Regards, Arthur

I retrospect, I think I might call this photo "Morning" as it will fit better into a series of photos of house interiors in transition (work in progress).

Very nice shot Arthur, we see a bit of sun spray on the ceiling that invites us in the image. You gave us a sense of warmth and with the black and white conversion it gives us a vintage feel. The early bird gets the worm.

I was lucky in regard to the light as I didn't have long at this site. Tony, I was only partly aware of the light spray on the ceiling, having been initially captured mainly by that on the far wall and on the door and its foot, so I quite appreciate your observation. The house wasn't that spacious, so the effective 16mm focal length and camera on a tripod at less than chest height aided the depth and perspective, and the apparent distortion of the open door that seems to mimic the floor and ceiling board orientations.
