semi-arid south to the more fertile and mountainous center of the

country. Yet the absolute desolation in this transition zone, coupled

with mountains looming in the far distance brings to mind the old

Windows desktop scene -- in the dry season!

Okay, when doing landscapes like this, where there isn't much to work with, you have to make the subject of the shot extremely dramatic. In this case, you don't even have the lines on the highway, and the mountains are too far away, so your sky has to be what is dramatic, and we just don't have it here. To create it, try darkening the sky or pasting in a powerful sky to give it the drama it's begging for.
