Please view large. Nelson, NZ wakes up at first light, looking over Tasman

Bay. Your opinions on the level of light here are appreciated. I have some

frames that are much darker and some lighter. I like the sky and level of

blue here. What do you think? Thanks. Larry

Very well balanced.  It looks like twilight.  You're fortunate to have some lights on that further reinforce the feeling of twilight.  Great clouds!

Stephen,

I appreciate your perceptions about balance and the lights in this image that help to suggest the waking day. I actually starting taking frames of this view when it was still totally dark - around 6 AM  - through gradual  changes in lightness.  The dark images lacked detail and definition.  I thought this one worked, as you do, because the buoy lights in the water and street and residential lights suggest the transition from night to day.  I was fascinated by the huge picture window view of Tasman Bay from our bedroom in the apartment we had rented for the night.  This is the pay off from having to drive up a treacherous hill and negotiate parking in a drive way requiring a ninety plus degree turn with no space to do it.  Thanks again.  Larry

Patsy,  Thanks for your visit.  Yes, daybreak is a great time of day - the trouble is that I'm usually sleeping.  Thanks for the compliment.   Larry

A gorgeous capture with a beautiful color pallet.  Well seen.  The little foreground lights really accent the emerging light in the sky.

Pawel and Lynne,  Thanks for your comments.  Lynne, as for being well seen, I had reluctantly just waken to get a decent shot and could hardly keep my eyes open.   Thanks to you both.

This is a superb blue hour shot Larry! I don't think you'd want too much more light or you'd lose that predawn feel. The smattering of lights in the town, and on the beacons in the bay, stand out now. If you had it much lighter they would not be as noticeable.

All the best,
Neil

Wanghan,

Thanks for visiting this image.  I have been enjoying your work too.  You have become quite a fan of the American southwest and have created many excellent images.   Larry
