Last week when I took a break from 'life' I went for a walk in one of

our most beautiful parks, 'Jackson's Park'. It is a very large park and

I didn't see nearly enough of it. While walking and searching for Fall

Colours, I met a young Mom and her son. I had a great time chatting

with them and they were more than happy to let me take a few

images. The son, who is just 2 years old, was so cute, and was

totally intrigued with the LCD Screen. He seemed a bit puzzled as to

how he 'got into my camera', and just wanted to see more pics of

himself. I'm not well versed in black and white conversion but I

thought I'd try with this one. Not a perfect portrait by any means but it

serves as a good memory of some enjoyable moments with a lovely

young Mom who seemed to be entirely devoted to her adorable little

boy. (comments as always, are welcome, many thanks, Gail)

I did some Digital Alterations to this image (texture, processing) so I

have entered it under Digital Alterations.

Not a perfect portrait?  I beg to differ - it looks great to me, as does your black and white processing - good tonal range from white through black.   A lovely moment, well captured.

You are too kind, but I do appreciate the encouragement, perhaps I will venture more often to the 'black and white' side of the 'block', cheers for now, Gail

Many thanks for your visit! The young lad was very sweet and even thought he loved getting his photo taken, he wasn't a 'ham'. I enjoyed the time I spent with them both.

Each of you has been so kind with your remarks and I appreciate your visits and encouragement. Black and white will take me a bit to get used to, but I am determined to learn. ;-)

Hi Gail, It's very contrasty in a good way, IMHO. You certainly captured the subjects in very good clear detail. Some will tell you its not always necessary to have sharp detail with people but I like it. It's a very sweet and emotional image and as always with you it's well presented. Take care.

Hi there Holger, I was trying to obtain some rich tones in the image while keeping the skin clear. I so admire Ruud's black and white editing, but I am stumped as to how he achieves such excellent results. But this is a more 'intimate' image and you may be right. I haven't printed it yet, so that will tell me better as to how it looks, many thanks for those pointers though, I am sure they will come in handy in the future, lovely to hear from you, ;-) Gail
