This is an image from my October 2012 trip to Colorado. This was a high

contrast scene with the sun at about 10:00. I combined 3 exposures for a

HDR rendering using PS6, LR4, and a HDR editor. I used the content

aware heal tool to remove some trash in the waterfall. How's the sky on

this one Alf?

Getting better all the time my friend!  The detail is awesome in the larger view and although there is still a bit of uneven discolouration in the sky (very difficult to remove) the HDR has done an excellent job of providing visibility throughout the dynamic range.  There is some blown highlights where the falls cascade over the rocks, but you must realise I am picking tiny faults in what is a very enjoyable image.  Keep exploring and enjoying Dominick!

Best Regards

Alf,  thanks for the input, nitpick all you want.  It's the only way I will improve.  I tried burning the hot spot in PS6 but ended up with an artificial off gray color.  Maybe clone the next time?  Aloha.

A wonderful shot. I also noticed the uneven sky color. Just wondering if you used a circular polarizer since this can do that when you shoot at a wide angle setting.

Tony, you nailed it!  I made an effort to work on this, but my attempts were futile.  The high elevations we encountered hiking, 10,000 feet +++, led to deep blue sky anyway.  It's a matter of how much.  Aloha.

I see Alberta and I think Banff bute I don't recognize the fall :-) - Nice shot

Dom. glad you make it to the mainland sometimes.  TFS! :-)

I have not as an experienced 'eye' when it comes to HDR etc Dominick, so I find little fault with this image. One day I hope to become that experienced. For now I will enjoy the beautiful view in front of me, excellent capture and processing.

Kind regards, Gail

Not only is it difficult to shoot because of the sun and shade, but most often there are swarms of people on the rocks and sometimes in the water.  I think it is a wonderful shot.  I had hoped to get there this fall but there was way too much work and not enough play time this year.

Gail, thank you.  Richard,  we stayed in Estes Park this time around and were able to get out early and beat the mass of people that show up later.

Again, another perfectly composed image.  I agree with the other comments about the sky and the blown out place on the falls, but then you knew that.  You're work has really stepped up a notch since I was last here.  (I haven't been around all that much either).  :-)  I once had the same trouble with the polarizers, so I started shooting the same scene with it and without it until I figured it out (I think).  :-)

Very nice. Beautiful scenery.

When I first clicked on your name I thought I was lost...like "hey man, this ain't da Islands"!

While lots of folks are going nuts about HDR, I can't go with the flow... on this one. I think that you might have done better in the RAW windows and adjusted the blues etc there.

Looks like y'all had a great time.

Just to reiterate what Tony observed! The uneven colouring in the sky caused by a circular polarisor is almost impossible to remove. I learned this the hard way also. The best way forward is to avoid using the polarisor when taking shots with large area's of blue sky.

Best Regards
