guillelobera 0 Posted October 12, 2012 The Basilica-Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pillar (in SpanishCatedral-Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar) is a Roman Catholicchurch in the city of Zaragoza. The present spacious church in Baroquestyle was begun in 1681by Charles II, King of Spain and completed in1686. The early constructions were supervised by Felipe Sanchez andwere later modified by Francisco Herrera the Younger under John ofAustria the Younger. In 1725, the Cabildo of Zaragoza decided tochange the aspect of the Holy Chapel and commissioned the architectVentura Rodriguez, who transformed the building into its presentdimensions of 130 meters long by 67 wide, with its eleven cupolas andfour towers.The Pilar Festival (Fiestas del Pilar) is celebrated every year on the12th of October.
