yanzhang 1 Posted October 10, 2012 This image was taken on 21 September 2012, in Mount Assiniboine, Canadian Rockies. A dramatic sky appeared over Mount Assiniboine: after sunset, the rising moon was hidden behind Mount Sunburst while its light was burst from the peak, moving clouds crossed the starry sky and formed such magic patterns. Thanks for viewing this image. Link to comment
ozererdogan 0 Posted October 10, 2012 This is a great shot Yan. I wonder how it will look with a standard 4x6 format. Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted October 11, 2012 Superb detail, the larger veiw being even more impressive. The perspective itself is breathtaking but the low light and slight ilumination conveys a glorious incandecence that is just mesmerising. Sincere Compliments! Alf Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted October 11, 2012 Lately I am very much interested in night and sky photography. To be able to really appreciate such a beautiful photo and to learn from it, I would like to know the basic technical information about equipment, settings and processing. I guess, you used a very wide angle lense. The mountains were much closer to you then they look like. The moon was quite high above the horizon, in fact already going down, following the sun, as it was still far from full moon. The beautiful light in the landscape and on the rocks comes mainly from the sky above the setting sun. The foreground is not from the same shot as the middle and upper part. This my guesses. And here my questions: is this landscape real or a photoshop composition? Is this a blend of different shots or from a single shot? If different shots, have they been shot at different times of the day or immediately one after the other? Could you really get the reflections of the stars in the water? Thanks for providing some more information and answering my questions. Karl Link to comment
yanzhang 1 Posted October 11, 2012 Dear Karl, Thanks for your interest in my this photo. Here is some information I can provide for you:(1) The cloud and star reflections in the late are definitely real;(2) This image was made in one location, on one night, within one hour time duration;(3) This final image was combined from three shots, at different time, within this one hour interval, but at the same location;(4) Basically, the final image represented what we would see in our naked eyes of the scene, while somehow one shot was not possible to capture.Cheers,Yan Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted October 11, 2012 Thanks Yan for this information. You did a good job. The only thing that I could suggest is to soften the transition between the mountain and the foreground. Mainly in the middle of the piture this looks quite harsh and unnatural. Otherwise it is great. Karl Link to comment
cl5 0 Posted October 12, 2012 That is absolutely a 7 in my books, Yan! What mind blowing work! Link to comment
malmer 0 Posted October 12, 2012 Dear Yan,Amazing picture with tremendous depth and clarity. It is really beautiful and very sharp. Please provide some details on equipment and aperture/shutter speed. Did you apply HDR techniques?best regards Per. Link to comment
yanzhang 1 Posted October 12, 2012 Dear Per, Thanks for viewing my image. No HDR is used for producing this image. It is a result from combining couple of shots taken in the same location, same day after sunset within one hour time frame, and each shot was indeed with different shutter speeds, apertures and ISO values in order to capture the fine details of various component of this scene.Cheers, Yan. ndj 0 Posted October 13, 2012 A superb night image Yan! Unless I miss my guess you shot this from the Nub? Must have been a fun trip down from the Nub in the dark! That's dedication to the art! The post processing is superbly done! Congratulations on an outstanding image Yan.All the best,Neil Link to comment
yanzhang 1 Posted October 14, 2012 Neil, Thanks for your comments. Yes, it was from the Nub. Going down in the darkness was a bit challenge indeed:) Over the four days, I went to the Nub 3 times. Link to comment

jordanek 0 Posted November 14, 2012 I really like the crop that you chose for this image and I like the combination of stars and clouds. It give the image a very nice quality. The fall color gives the image just enough color to offset the overall blue tone of the photo. Link to comment
dkemphoto 0 Posted December 14, 2012 I agree with all of the comments so far. A beautiful image and one to be very proud of, I know I would be.However, I feel the title is wrong for this picture. In my opinion, you should add the words "Provincial Park" if you wish to keep the present words in the title, as "Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park" is what this photo is, or represents. Although Mt. Assiniboine is in the photograph, it is very much in the minority for subject material. Sunburst Mountain is the main (mountain) subject here and thus, I feel, the title should bear its name.Nevertheless, congratulations on achieving this rendition. Very good indeed.Derek.
