Les, Your photographic skill exceeds your humanism.  I object to your calling these people "characters."  Go to the trouble of finding out a name and a fact or two about their lives.  Say something like "Harry, a retired ....."

Jerry: This guy used to be the Borough Manager of Pottstown. He was in the lobby of the new Steel River Playhouse, one of the few class acts we have. I TALK to the people I photograph, ALWAYS. He is also a local character. Period. This is not a photo essay, nor an attempt at social documentation. I have no political or philosophical axe to grind. I simply show people.
