I looked at all your landscapes in your gallery to see what your style is.  Honestly, I don't think this is one of the stronger ones. The composition of your other landscapes is so strong and I really like all of them except this one. My eye seems to wander all over the image and doesn't have a place to rest.  Should I look at the sky, the boater, the bird, the water?  The centered horizon doesn't help to guide the viewer.    I wonder what your intent for the viewer is.

Hello Evgeni:

I like the image, as I believe it is well balanced. The "three stages" of light in the sky is one powerful element. Than you have the lonely man in the boat, and even when the sea appears calm, the overall image is quite ominous, which adds to the scene. And the rocks add an element of risk, so in conclusion, it is a very interesting image, even when the subject of sea/sunsets is quite common, but not in this case! Well done.

Dear Lynne and Daniel, thanks for your interest.

What I ‘intent for the viewer’? Nothing usually - I do not know the rules in landscape photography and never will learn and follow them.

This photo is what I have seen early morning from a coastal rock. I see a lonely boater with small boat in a windy day fighting with the waves. The sun rays attracted me here. I also do not like this my photo very much, but feel some mood here. Thanks again.

I very much like this image- the stages of light and the lone boater who is practically lost in the sea.

I have had my own internal debate about the aesthetic quality of an ocean such as this-the grey cobalt infused with strong highlights and I can see it here as a strong element although quite different from an ocean that pops out at you.

I think you are right- shoot for your 'eye' . That's honesty.

Best

Michael
