I was taking some long expsoures of the groynes and noticed that

there was a guy fishing that wasn't really moving much at all. I

turned my attention to him and although there is some movement of

the rod and himself that can be seen in the larger view, I thought the

overall effect looked interesting. Your thoughts and comments are

always appreciated. Thank You.

Brings back memories of the early morning fishing days of my youth.

A beautiful presentation, my friend. Love the pale lighting and the solitude.

Well done............

Best regards

Well... the slight movement would have been less noticeable had you not mentioned it ;-), but with the elements involved an easy fix (see attached - nothing else changed).

Regardless, beautiful soft colors and the long exposure accentuate the mood and sense of place...  Love it... Mike

Alf, This is beautiful in its simplicity. Your minimalistic approach to this is very artistic, I'd like the hue of this ever so slightly cooler but that is strictly a personal preference. Excellent work my friend.

Best,

Holger

Many Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated!  I know when I was watching this guy fishing I was torn between wanting to take more photographs or fetching my fishing rod.  Looking at it, its hard to believe its the North Sea.

Cheers Grayham!

You have come up with exactly the same fix that I did myself to my first version, (took away the blurry edges) and although from a technical point of view, it could be said that its a definite  improvement. I decided to post the original to give it a bit of life, though looking at your version I'm not at all sure if I did the right thing now : - )

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Sincere Thanks for your interest and thoughtful comments. It is interesting you mention the hue, as the original was cooler than this version, I changed the white balance whilst processing the RAW file, you would probably like the original better.

I have others that are even more minimilistic, just the sea and the fisherman, but thought the groynes added a bit of interest Maybe I'll post the others at some point.

Many Thanks & Best Regards

LARRY

Groynes (Groins USA spelling) is a rigid structure built from the shore or river bank to prevent erosion, or the movement of sediment in the sea or ocean, in this case sand.  They can take many shapes and be built of various materials, including concrete, piles of rock, but perhaps most commonly timber like the simple ones you can see in the photo.

Many Thanks Larry!

Many Thanks for your interest and kind words.  It was a very calm evening. The North Sea can sometimes be the roughest sea imaginable, but on this particular evening there was scarcely a swell. I was on the East coast of the UK (I'm usually situated on the west coast) and therefore the sunset was inland behind me, but the reflected colours in the sky still made for a nice display.

It really is such a Peaceful image Alf. He does not look 'LONELY' but he is 'ALONE' and from what I feel from the image, probably lost in his own 'SOLITUDE'. We all need those places to escape to. The colours are serene and lovely. What a magical moment it must have been.

Sincere regards, Gail

Serene, calm, quiescent - providing a mood for the entire image. A palette of colors that are very palatable and contrasts greatly with one of my images you visited and rated recently. I am impressed and pleased that you recognize and appreciate both styles.    All the very best,

Hi Alf,

Again, this is beautifully composed, has a very realaxing feel about it.I really like the soft hues throughout and in my opinion anything more would have spoiled the zen like quality of this, however I am no expert on landscape photography! Beautifully and artfully done!

Best wishes. Sarah.

Very peaceful relaxing image Alf!  Really like the warm color and the solitary subject standing patiently in the water.  Must have been getting close to dark and he was still trying to get another fish!  Like the wood wall pointing towards the subject.  Amazing that the boards look so new.  Must have been of recent construction.

The long exposure and the man being quite clear made the image very interesting indeed, one can appreciate the calm effect on the water but yet you can also see perfectly clear what is the picture about and in the other hand the logical side of the brain wants to believe the he should be a total blur.

When I first saw the image that effect was what caught my attention the most and once you got my attention into the frame you got me going with all the details.

Best regards on such great shot.

Well I'll have to come clean and admit ..........he was not alone : - ) He had a friend that was standing well to to the left of the image.  But this friend was far more fidgety and I decided that a lone fisherman would look more effective. That being said.........the moment of solitude was I suspect, something we all felt..........each of us in our own little world.......fishermen catching fish...........and me catching them : - ) It was indeed a magical moment, I was really excited when I saw the results of the long exposure in the small viewing screen on the back of the camera.

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated!

Beauty has almost infinite variables and I'm very fortunate that I have a wide appreciation of it.  I think it's a bit like music, if you limit yourself to just one style, you miss out on a whole plethora of others  I'm very pleased you liked this one Tony!

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Many Thanks for your very useful feedback, much appreciated! It's good to know the reasons for likes and dislikes, and the qualities that are appealing it helps when making critical decisions in the future.

PHIL

He was still there when I was headed for home! But I've done it myself, spent a few warm summers nights on the beach with a few beers and a fishing rod......after a while the fish don't seem that important : - )

The boards I think must have been replaced recently, the uprights were much more weathered and look like they have been there forever.

Many Thanks for sharing your thoughts Phil < i'm very pleased you like this one!

ALEX

I've taken hundreds of long exposures before, but never come across a human that has stood so still for so long!  I took about another  5 - 6 shots and they turned out equally as well, I might post another one in the future.  You are so right about logic dictating that he should be a blur, as you have eloquently described, I think this is what makes the image striking....albeit in a very quiet way.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

NEIL

It was one of those evenings, the sun was setting behind me (as this was shot on the East coast of England) but the colours were reflected in the sky in front, the North Sea was unusually very calm, and everything was just chilled and relaxed, the long exposure just kind of accentuated what was there.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Hi Alf- WOW, one of your shortest pages of comments. What a great feelin your fine image evokes , quiteness ,peacefulness ,a feeling of peace with ones self, & best of all , of savouring the pleasure of being alone..Alone, how rarely are we completely alone, being a bit of a loner it is one of my greatest pleasures, just being by myself & enjoying pleasures by a river or in a woods. Thanks for a fine image. Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful comments.

I took quite a few shots of this guy fishing, the best thing about it was he hardly moved an inch during the long exposure.  I'm glad you got the sense of solitude as that was just what I wanted to express. And yeah, its a sentiment that I share, being alone and kind of melting into the anonymity of it whilst enjoying the surroundings is a great feeling.

Cheers Ross!

It was most unusual to be able to get a long exposure without the subject moving. It was a beautiful evening if I wasn't holding a camera, the next best thing would have been a fishing rod.

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Doug!
