The Totonac people resided in the eastern coastal and mountainousregions of Mexico at the time of the Spanish arrival. Today theyreside in the states of Veracruz, Puebla, and Hidalgo.

Although the Danza de los Voladores (Dance of the Flyers), or PaloVolador (Pole Flying), is an ancient Mesoamerican ceremony/ritualstill performed, did not originate with the Totonacs, this ritual itis often associated with the Totonacs of the Papantla area in Veracruz.

This totonac indian of the Papantla Flyers acted in the Bilbao Ars Sacrum.
