davidmccracken 2 Posted September 11, 2012 I am not sure if I will be happier if people don't like this rather than like it. Feedback appreciated. Link to comment

aqualarue 0 Posted September 12, 2012 Grotesque, can see what you are attempting to do visually, but don't think it works. Looking at all your other images and the style you have I am surprised about you wanting to create an image like this. There is a strange visual irony in this, and I suppose others will find it creative. But that iconic phrase we are all so familiar with might better be executed with images of what the majority of us might well find ugly in their natural setting, yet retain an obtuse beauty or charm, (just my own off the top of my head theory). I see what you want to do here, but if you don't like it, I agree with you. Link to comment
owen_omeara 1 Posted September 12, 2012 It is disturbing and wonderful at the same time. I might not want to wake up to it every morning but I would love to look at it after a few pints every evening. You never cease to amaze me. -Cheers Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted September 13, 2012 Chris, I am always more humbled by lengthy negative comments on my photos than short positive ones. I can't argue with the word 'grotesque' although personally I think that particular word is a little too strong. As for creating images like this, I do 'play' from time to time. I am not sure if you are asking me if I like this myself or not. I think much of the time I am more interested by the comments an image receives rather than the image itself. This is true of my own images and the images of others.) As is said, it is better to provoke a reaction than have no reaction at all. That said, I do think your 'reaction' was more provoked by a comment I left on one of your images. Owen, I have an experiment for you to try. Drink lots of whisky and beer and watch how she 'grows' another eye. Keep drinking and watch how they appear to be in the correct place. If this experiment fails, I am sure you will still enjoy the process. Thanks you both. Link to comment
owen_omeara 1 Posted September 14, 2012 I took your advice and found out that you are correct. At one point she had four. -Cheers Mate Link to comment
aqualarue 0 Posted September 15, 2012 In absolute honesty David to this comment.." As is said, it is better to provoke a reaction than have no reaction at all. That said, I do think your 'reaction' was more provoked by a comment I left on one of your images...." No, I had just read your uplifting note about the other images and so had no reason to do that. I have left quite strong words on a few other images, but it is always my intention to encourage and see good things within the same paragraph. If I had wanted to be vindictive I could easily have worded my critique less tactfully. I think most people would admit that an image like this is grotesque, I feel no other adjectivial phrase would have been more appropriate, The visual irony that I see, is the mental struggling between trying to see that beautiful woman that she most certainly is, and the mutation that is presented before me. One could easily have been just as philosophical by saying that we must struggle to see beneath appearances. This could also have been a title: " Appearances Deceive"? So be re-assured, no tit-for-tat in my ball park David. Link to comment
