In my mother though we called this "Babui Pakhi", actually they are

weaver birds. From my childhood whenever I saw a Weavers birds

nest, I just fascinated. There is no such thing as equality amongst

the hundreds species of Ploceidae, or weaver birds. Though found

across Asia and in Australia, it is in East African countries such as

Uganda and Ethiopia that the widest diversity of these birds is found,

and also where the artistic ability for which they are known becomes

most pronounced. Ploceidae are a varied family, and count among

their number the most abundant bird species on Earth.

This image transported me back to my childhood! Watching the birds weave their nest was one of my favorite pastimes! Coconut trees by the paddy fields would be adorned with many, sometimes more than a dozen, nests. How I loved their happy flights down from the trees to the field and back with a leaf between their beaks! I am so sad I don't see them in my village anymore.
