Your first crop would work if you needed the space for text like for a magazine cover.  The closer crop in more artistically pleasing to me.  I cropped your image even closer mainly for the purpose of showing your original next to another color possibility.  This is only my preference and you may have other reasons for preferring your choice.  I mention this because many photographers are not fully aware that they have choices after the portrait shoot of how to render the final image.  I hope this is helpful.  Good luck

John,

Thank you very much. I am very familiar with Photoshop and image manipulation. I LIKE THE TIGHTER CROP MYSELF. I just wondered if somebody likes more empty space.

Your original crop does have a good "rule-of-thirds" going for it but not in a positive or a negative way.  Since there is nothing else in the composition with which your model has to compete almost any crop will do because her skin tone is still going to be the center of interest regardless.  The rule of thirds is useful in drawing the eye in an more complex image with various other elements that might tend to compete with the main subject.  Thus, for me, the only reason to have so much dark space is if you are going to use it for another purpose other than enhansing the composition.

John, I totally agree and I was just curios if people accept the rule of thirds in all cases. It works splendid in many cases but not in this case.
