andrea-de-bonis 6 Posted September 2, 2012 useless to say, len, that the photo is very well done, well composed and that seems that the old woman is trying to learn the concept of elegance tp the other one. what i want to underline is the importance of the light in a photo. now, with the digital, i see toomuch photos, also good, but schooted with a wrong light. few people wait to the light. but this is the dimostration that with the correct light also a simple camera produce photos better that others..... ciao! LenMarriott 9 Posted September 2, 2012 In the past few years I've done more than half of my photography with a P&S camera. It's going to be a battle to convince my wife I need a new DSLR. :-( This gem was taken during a sunny break in the overcast sky that day. Kind of gave a spotlight effect, creating distinct shadows which in turn increased the patterns on the background. Thanks for your views. Best, LM. Link to comment
museebfoto 2 Posted September 5, 2012 Len, what a nice gray tones and shadows. Brimful common sense for a simple yet artistic subjects. best regards Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 5, 2012 The original is in colour but I liked the B&W version best. I usually seem to get good gray tones from this P&S when converted to B&W. And, simple? Simple is what I do best. :-) Thanks for your participation. Best, LM. Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted September 6, 2012 Enviable B & W tones and another great result from your P & S camera. I really like the enquiring look from the lady on the left that suggests the title of the image. But I can think of several other captions that might raise a smile, heres one that isn't too rude to print > " Your not seriously thinking of buying it are you Mabel, it looks like a nest of agitated tadpoles" ahhh yes the type of image where I could speculate for hours at the ensuing conversation. Love it!Well done Len!Best Regards Alf Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 6, 2012 Please read what I wrote you at your last comment on my work. I need a break for some time, but just to let you know that it is a very nice juxtaposition of human ,nature, light and shadow.I will keep in touch sometime in the future... Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 6, 2012 As I've said before, P&S cameras are like Rodney Dangerfield, 'they don't get no respect'. Good to have another perspective on this one. I hadn't considered it but you are right, tadpole look-alikes. All most guys think about is " ....oh, yah, something else for me to have to hang on a wall...." Best, LM. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 6, 2012 Thanks for fitting me & my work into your day. It is much appreciated. See you when you return. Best, LM. Link to comment
museebfoto 2 Posted September 6, 2012 Dear Len… I hope you didn't got the word "simple" as bad expression to this work. Many beautiful themes pay attention to take pictures, but not the majority could produce a high spiritual image from two woman toward off-white wall. Such subject need a pre-visualization for its artistic points, it needs power of performance to present elements and soul. That is why I felt it is simple but beautiful work.Best regards Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 6, 2012 Thanks for the follow up. As I said, simple is good! It means a shorter path to a successful photo. Complicated paths create more possibilities for failure. When a complicated path produces a successful photo I call it a 'masterpiece'. I don't have too many of those. :-) Thanks for caring. Best, LM. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 16, 2012 Thanks for validating my decision to convert to B&W. Best, LM. Link to comment
gunnar1664882369 1 Posted September 16, 2012 I like the concept, there is a great idea to present. Very nice composition too, but most important - there is a very good light for B&W work. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 17, 2012 Welcome to my page and many thanks for taking the time & effort to comment. I felt the B&W conversion was superior to the original colour one. Best, LM. Link to comment

3m 0 Posted September 23, 2012 Nicely composed and very well rendered in B&W, Len. I like the way the dark leaves & flowers contrast (pop really!) against the light BG, while forming a slight diagonal connecting the two ladies. The light straw hat adds structure & a nice touch. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 23, 2012 Nice of you to drop by with your observations which I happen to share. I liked the way the tones, textures, & shapes, unsullied by any colours, rendered this candid. The texture of the hat balances the texture of the hair of the lady on the right. Best, LM. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 9, 2012 The sculpted leaves seem to have disturbed their well-ordered universe. Excellent picture, Len, with superb tones and composition that contrasts the dynamic and the static.. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks for the vote of confidence. The words of Jay Maisel remarking on an essential element in people photos, the 'gesture', come to mind in shots like these. To me, a 'gesture' provides an element of dynamism. Here, what appears to me to be a verbal communication, would certainly qualify. Best, LM. Link to comment

Christal1664882414 0 Posted October 21, 2012 Yes, sometimes P&S cameras can get better results than my DSLR. Don't know what that says about my photographic skills though. :-) I love this! Many things.....there is a vertical dividing line smack dab in the middle, which serves a couple of purposes. It provides a great contrast to the diagonal leaves, and puts each of the ladies in a separate space. I love the shadows and the great B&W tones. A great shot! And a shot each can make up their own story about. If this were mine, I'd probably get rid of the 3(4?)little dots of in the upper right, but that's a small nit on a fine image. Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted October 21, 2012 A study of a study... Great light, as so many others have pointed out, which aid a 3-D effect that is very pleasing to the eye. Link to comment
