Guest Guest Posted July 25, 2003 not much of a portrait without the subjects face. But thats just my opinion. T.Page Link to comment
marshall 0 Posted July 25, 2003 I think the image has been pretty seriously pixellated by photo.net's software. If you upload it a little smaller, it should suffer less on conversion. Yes, this would probably be more engaging with the subject's face, but it nonetheless gives a good sense of place. I think this is a rare case where I'd like a little more foreground, because of the stuff along the wall and in front of him, which creates a good line leading us in. Enjoy. Link to comment
alina 0 Posted July 26, 2003 Ehsan, I think this photo will have a stronger impact if it would be made in b&w. I would like to see also the face, the expresion of the man. Regards. Alina. Link to comment
ronhess 0 Posted July 27, 2003 i agree w/the above on showing the face but i did like the pic very much. the background and the shoes were a good add to the pic. Link to comment

pvp 0 Posted August 12, 2003 I agree that it's hard to see this as a portrait, but as street photography it is compelling; it seems to tell quite a story on its own merits. Good composition IMO, it includes enough of the subject's environment to keep the viewer interested. Link to comment
anna_wing 0 Posted September 7, 2003 I think I can see what it is you are trying to get, but it is not quite there yet. In a way, the face looking away does add something. I do agree with pulling your frame out. Link to comment
joe_line 0 Posted October 17, 2003 very good composition here. i must say that i disagree with the others about the face - i think that not showing the face really adds some emotion to the picture... like the man is too ashamed to show his face to the camera in such a place. the picture is very good; from the small contrasts to the faded colours to the items in the photo themselves. in addition, the man fits quite well - he looks perfectly in place and i think he's a great subject in general. the cart [?] with the trash bags in the background adds a nice touch as well. keep up the good work :) Link to comment

codepic 0 Posted November 29, 2003 At first I thought the subject looking away from the camera wasn't good. But then I realized this makes the situation more intimite. Like we were not supposed to be looking. As the guy looks into the background, it helps to focus the interest into the surroundings after looking at the man. After looking at the surroundings and realizing the context, the viewer returns to looking at the man. What is he looking at? This cycle makes the photo interesting to examine for a longer time.
