Hi Robert,

As a photographer of fungi I appreciate seeing others get one into critique. I know how challenging it can be to get these shots down in moss.

I like all the colors here and I appreciate that you've tried to take a bit different look at the mushroom, showing delicate structures and uplifted line. Looks like you may have a little Hygrophorus there. The lichen and mosses together give nice shades of green. I also think you chose well with your focus along the edge rather than in the gills. You've got nice gill definition.

Is there one below that is broken? I think this can be better. It's a bit overexposed. You've stopped way down for DOF, but at the expense of a longer exposure. I could not tell from your data if you used a flash.(if it's there and I didn't see it, please accept my apology). Lighting fungi can be tricky, whether it's natural or flash. This can use more contrast. What do you think?

Fungi are a lot of fun to photograph with their colors and shapes. Keep shooting and looking for interesting points of view.

Your native Orchid portfolio is very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Laura,  No flash, Yes there is a broken one at the bottom, cropping it out took away the meeting of fungus and moss in lower right corner, tried a few different exposures and slightly different compositions(limited options due to location) this one just looked best to my eye, there's also a small stick in the background that I missed, it amazes me that things like that escape my notice until editing, probably due to uncomfortable position(laying on belly on wet, rocky, steep ground with head lower than feet, live view helps but still uncomfortable). Enjoyed your fungus pics, a really different viewpoint.
