esteve 0 Posted August 19, 2012 Very nice tones and composition. Maybe a longer exposure would have fit ? Not sure. Regards, Esteve Link to comment
ka_tula 0 Posted August 19, 2012 but then the sun would be burned :)I have done a little later - the sun came out from the clouds and is blown and the boat is beckoning :( Link to comment
stp 6 Posted August 19, 2012 Very nicely composed and exposed. You could use a ND filter and decrease the shutter speed without affecting the exposure, and that would smooth the water. However, even though that could be done, I question whether it should be done. This has a natural feel to it, the ripples in the water make it look and feel more like water, and the contrast of the water texture with that of the sky (especially as it fades into the fog) is beneficial, IMO. I'd leave it just like this and be very happy with the photograph. Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted August 19, 2012 I was thinking that the composition was maybe just a little too central, but after some contemplation deduced that the angle of the boat and the sun in the offset position balanced the image nicely. I wonder if you have already used a grad filter, either in processing or on camera as the sky looks darker than the reflection, and this is normally opposite. The danger of making the exposure time longer apart from burning the sun out as you have said, is that there could also be movement from the boat which would then result in a less than sharp image. All that being said, the image has a delightful mood and mystical quality that needs no further adjustments in my humble opinion. Very well done!Best Regards Alf Link to comment
ka_tula 0 Posted August 20, 2012 Thanks :-)Alf - you're right - I used a grad filter. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted August 20, 2012 Good eye, Alf; I hadn't noticed that -- I was too concentrated on the ripples, which I like. This could easily be addressed in processing, if one is so inclined. I think the key is to get the reflection (water portion) slightly darker than the fog (sky portion), and to also have the desired brightness in the sky (clear portion and fog portion). GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted August 20, 2012 I find this image to be quite beautiful. It is so STILL. I can almost hear the 'silence' that it speaks to me of. Lovely work! Link to comment
WJBrowning 0 Posted August 20, 2012 Beautiful timing of this shot, with the sun behind the cloud, giving it a very soft calm atmosphere, with great subtle colours. I like the composition and structure of the shot. Well seen and executed, best wishes William. Link to comment
