It's always fun to go back through ones files and folders to see if there are any little "gems" that have been missed. I found this one, that needed a slight crop.

The exif data indicates that I added a 2x to the lens.... I can't remember.

I like the way the Zebra seems to "take-on" the colour of the habitat...... yes, not all are black and white.

Appreciate any comments.....

Regards

A gem, indeed. From time to time I see such enviable shots of zebras, and they seem to be inherently photogenic. But the only time I had a chance to shoot one in the wild, I found my own shots rather pedestrian. So thanks for posting and spurring me on to try again.

This is a real beauty and the surrounding grasses hold as much appeal for me as the zebra itself. But its the combination that makes it a winner. I really admire the composition too, the rear view with the slight angle of the head turning into the photograph is just perfect.   A gorgeous wildlife photograph by any standard!

Sincere Compliments!

Thanks for your kind comment..... appreciated. Yes, these guys can present themselves like cows in a field, but fortunately they are not too skittish which allows you to move about abit (with the landrover) and look for a better presentation.... as was the case here.

Thanks for your time.......

Always nice to hear from you. Thank you so much for your descriptive comments....... my sentiments as well.  I have no idea how I missed this one, way back when........ but I do enjoy re-visiting my original files and re-living the individual moments of the captures. Nostalga I guess.

Thanks for stopping by........ trust you are well.

I also ocasionally go though my "rejects" and come up with something as well.  Makes me wonder how we miss them the first time.  Really nice zebra shot, Grayham.  I love these guys. I have seen many on my two trips to Africa but this is by far the LEAST black and white that I have seen.  Nice POV (seriously) with the head visible and positioned where he has plenty of room to view his surroundings.

Very well done...

Thanks for stopping by. Your comments are appreciated.

Your reference to the "black and whites" got me a-thinking, so I dug out my old South African Wildlife reference books to have a look-see..... to quote one reference on colour..... "Whitish or cream coat with black stripes which continue under the belly. Yellow or grey 'shadow stripes' between the black markings, more noticable on the rump". This is a Burchells Zebra.

Now, I'm thinling that "black and White" is a misnomer in terms of Zebra, I researched further to find a Cape Zebra which is unique to the high country of the Cape (in South Africa). I'm sure I have a shot of one of these (somewhere). If I find it, I'll post it here for comparison.

Thanks again

Best regards

It is indeed a beautiful capture Grayham. The first thing I noticed was how the Zebra seemed to blend in with the terrain. I think this would look beautiful framed!!! I imagine you have a lot of 'gems' just waiting for you to find them! (I watched a documentary the other night on 'Great Migrations' and they highlighted Australia's 'flying Red Fox'. Fascinating creatures, so 'bat like' in appearance. There was one 'clip' where they were flying with the sunset in the background and they just seemed to fill the skys!!!)

Thanks for your visit and comments.... always nice to hear from you.

Yes I've thought of it for my walls in the family room....... hmnnn.

Gems do seem to pop up every now and again....... so I keep looking.

Hope you are well.

I like to go through my shots also (although I don't take photos that long, I can still find overlooked photos), and this one is just really great. The grass, the zebra and the colours are great, they all blend together into a lovely photo.
