Spot meter. The image was sharpened, contrast and levels adjusted in PS. This image was taken on Carmel beach soon after sunrise. Your comments and ratings are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I took this on Carmel beach. I had spotted this boat the day before

and came back at sunrise. I waited to get something more interesting

than just the boat and was rewarded by the bird. Your comments and

ratings are welcome. Thanks a lot.

Nice catch. Especially since the bird seems to be looking directly at the boat! My only quibble would be that the blue seems a little too saturated. Maybe you can tweak that a little in PS. Otherwise, a great shot.

fantastic composition. the horizontal tension, created by the sand breaks the cliche. of course the bird completes it all

a lot for all your comments guys. Vishal - I did reduce the intensity of blue using PS as it was quite saturated thanks to Velvia. Koos - Thanks for your cropping suggestion. The square format is nice and effective. I hadn't thought of that as I was quite fixated by the idea of keeping the sand band.

I think the sand band at the top makes it more interesting. It would have looked like a textbook composition without it IMO

great shot!

the square one works great for 'graphic' effect...

anyway, the sand is good too...

only thing, if you could include the whole rim of the ripple caused by the bird...

horizontal composition with full ripple, blue water, the incredible boat, no sand...

i dunno, just thinking... what say you?

anyways, as i said earlier, the photograph is good as is already...

Paresh. I have not logged into my folder for so long that I missed your comment. Thanks for it. I agree with you say. Getting a horizontal with the boat and the full ripple would have been good, or even being a bit more trigger happy with the vertical format to "catch" the ripple before it left the frame. The truth is I did not expect the bird to put its beak in the water. I was afraid I would scare it away and hence shot the moment I saw it straighten. Thanks anyway.

nice shot. the ripple around the bird also contributes. At first I thought the water above the sand is distracting but cropping that didnt help... its nice the way it is!
