Despite the B&W, I find it striking the degree to which she stands out in this photograph.  I also like the square format with a bit of extra space on either side.  I can imagine a series of these photographs -- I think it would be a very effective presentation.  Very nicely done.

I too like square format -especially for portraits. I sometimes shoot "medium format" for that reason. Khadija is a great subject; a natural model she is, loves doing it -maybe it's the money :-), but hard to get in touch with.  Thank you for your input.

Clean, crisp and neat portrait of a sweet character, her expression is so placid and sparkling at the same time, like if a gentle and mischievous spirit were emerging from within.

Your B&W people photos will always have an enthusiastic audience in me.  You are getting better with the Photoshop manipulation. Comes with practice.  Perhaps a lighter hand on the (Gaussian?) Blur slider would make the background more natural, like what you would get with a fast tele wide open.  Just trying to be helpful.  Best, LM.

Re: Background,  This is the result you got from the camera?  No Photoshop (or, pick your manipulation program)  hanky panky?  What was the background made from?  No, no 'better choice'.  Your background is fine, just so smooth I thought it was manipulated.  Always willing to learn something new.   Hey, wait a minute.  Your 'Details' indicate a backdrop.  Possibly paper or fabric?   I think I understand now.  Should have read them before I commented the first time.   Best, LM.

Sorry I confused. I tried to create a digital "studio". The backgrounds are downloads (can find them on google).  Khadija's image was psudo layered onto the background. Not really layered because I do not know how to layer and do not have a photoshop version to do so but I make do. The photos eventually ends up in a "Portrait Composite" folder -composite meaning multiple layers. You are correct. This is digital manipulation. The mat and frame comprise two more layers.
