Hello Peter - I'm stuck for an answer on this one now. I think the image is still a bit overexposed at the top of her nose. Once all is said and done, you might find that the original was as it should be. I'm keeping it in my favorites for now just in case.

I've also applied your suggestion to to my Bella Coola shot, and I think it works very well. Thanks again - Joe

I prefer this to the stronger contrast version, which feels a bit overdone to me. Here, the lighting feels more natural and allows the expression and their rapt attention to take center stage. I think the combination of focus/out of focus and lighting achieves a lot of depth. I like the subtlety of her hand under her chin and especially the way her last two fingers hide yet appear in the shadows. I do think the area on her forehead and the bridge of her nose, which lose texture and detail, are unfortunate and don't know if some detail could be recovered or it's gone. It does create a mood and show a concentrated moment.
