I was fortunate enough to be at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and

this is one of my favourite photos from the weekend. What I like

about it is the fact that the blurred background and the straw bales

make the shot feel as though it could almost be 1968 - when the car

actually raced in anger...

I'd be welcome to hear other people's opinions on this shot.

I like this a lot. Convert it to B&W in PS and it will be 1968!! I'm going to what is probably the largest historic race in the country this weekend in Elkhart Lake, WI. If I get some good ones I'll try and post a few. By the way what shutter speed?

Tim,

The car was going quite slowly back down the hill (this event was a hillclimb) so I used a slowish shutter speed (1/90 s) to blur out the background. I may be tempted to print this as B/W though :)

A great shot. I wonder, though, about full face helmets being used in Formula 1 before late 1969/early 1970 so I'm not sure this would pass as a shot from that era. The cool down lap, or trip back down the hill, as in this case is one of my preferred times to do pan shots. The cars are moving slower and its easier to keep them in frame at closer distances. Like Tim Adams Ill also be posting shots from that same vintage racing event. You might want to take a look.

I'm looking forward to taking a look at both your photos - let me know when they're posted.

FYI this was my first time shooting vintage / classic race cars - ASCAR, GTs, touring cars (BTCC) and Formula 3 single seaters is what I normally cover.
