lynnthomas 0 Posted July 25, 2012 I love these kinds of street shots. It shows a story, a contrast between those who are able to go to the art studio advertised on the sign and those who are barely able to afford dinner like the woman who is begging. Irony and contrast.... As well, the contrast between the trendy and seemingly much better off woman walking and the woman sitting. I notice even the woman walking across the shadow of the other...... The tones are well done, good contrasts between the very dark and light. This photo could be interpreted many ways which also I think is why it works so well. Brings the eye of the viewer in, looking for more to the story. This a wonderful street shot. Link to comment
sideris 0 Posted July 25, 2012 BruegelLike always your motto's are as accurate as possible! unforgettable! Thank you very much for your visit and your understanding. Mil gracias! LynnYes, there is a story. The trendy, wealthy young woman appeared lost in her thoughts from right side of the alley (bottom corner from your right) walking straight to the old woman.Suddenly she warns the beggar, and rapidly changes her path crossing the alley in diagonal, trying to walk against the wall as far as possible (the moment captured), like if the poor old woman had a contagious disease (could be the penury contagious?) Perhaps the young tourist was recently bathed, who knows. At last, a brief description of the context. Thanks a lot for your deep thoughts about my humble work. Link to comment
gsphotoguy 3 Posted July 26, 2012 I too like that this looks like there is a story being told. Having read your description I now understand better. This is very well captured, Carlos! Link to comment
donna pallotta 108 Posted July 26, 2012 in this otherwise aesthetically evocative image, and the irony of (if but for the light, which with it's high pitch renders a lot of excellent contrast and honest shadow,... and it looks like cave or a hut somewhere) the clincher for me in this strong composition is the emotion on the young woman's face, which tells a story to the viewer's imagination. bravo Carlos ;-} dp Link to comment
sideris 0 Posted July 27, 2012 MarkIt's right, the sense of a story is there. And the interpretations rides a wide arch of meanings as well. But, you know, with a little help from my side doubts are dispersed! ;-) Thank you very much my friend. DonnaShot taken in Santorini Island, at the top of Fira (capitol town) inside one of those charming alleys crossed by arches, one noon of july, hot like the hell. Not too much people wandering at his hour under this boiling sun, and suddenly I found out this solitary old woman dressed in black, as every old women in Greece, begging for coins. Quite strange, almost surrealist scene. "Something should happen", I was thinking. Patient and immersed in this atmosphere, I wait and wait, and it happen at last. I selected this shot among 15 or 20 takes. Thank you very much for your visit, and your encouraging words Donna. Link to comment
