Wow! Not sure what to say here.

Your portfolio hosts many outstanding images and I've commented on many but this one has me a little perplexed (smiles).

Using the 80/20 rule, for me, the 80% is of negative OoF space which I find distracting and adds little to the image. You obviously have a reason for using only 20% of the frame for the subject matter and that would interest me more.

Best regards

I didn't think it through. I'll try and post a portrait crop. I couldn't crop landscape more without pixelation. Still, I wanted just the head of the bird. Now I'm thinking portrait crop has less negative space and puts more emphasis on the helpless little hands I found a disturbing. Thanks!

Hi Charles, I must admit I also prefer the sencond rendering. I very interesting shot. I used to think these sorts of wading birds lived on little fish/worms etc. Since joining PN and seeing shots like this I have come to realise just how varied their diet is and that they are quite ruthless hunters. A great capture with great detail on "dinner" I see what you mean about those little hands. argh...Regards Louise

Thanks for your explanation and crop.

Thought you might like to consider this one..................

I appreciate that the original carries a bit of grain with it, so hopefully it is not too bad in my rendition.

Best regards

Thanks for your thoughts, Louise. Poor rodents!

Grayham: square works, though for me it is a little tight. Thanks again!
