Wow, the landscape is so flat there. It feels like one can see forever!!! Is that rain over land or is that bit of light on the horizen a body of water, doesn't seem likely, I guess, because it seems of a higher elevation. Amazes me the detail Chuck. I can see that the road 'goes up and down' so very far away, I guess the landscape is not so much flat, but not many trees etc. Is it all Farmland??? BTW great capture and processing!

Gail, this area is gently rolling and quite dry, not a desert, but close to it. The land is mostly privately owned and if it's used, it's for rangeland to feed cattle I think. In the distance you can see some rain falling. Clouds are more common out there than actual rainfall. Trees only exist near water sources in eastern Colorado and outside of wells there is none, so no trees and a deep vista. Few people live out there too.

Thanks for your comments. As for the sepia, it does have an emotional affect. Sometimes I use a little color for that reason. This was greyscale before I added a sepia tint.

Chuck,  Excellent image with just the right amount of softness.  Do I detect a Kansas storm brewing?  The image feels lonely and exposed.  You have a terrific eye and achieve your artistic message well.  Best to you.  Larry

No, this is eastern Colorado, which is close. I used a shallow DOF focused near the camera to get the soft look toward the horizon.

I like the huge open space, gravel road, and line of telephone poles, but the clouds really make the image for me.
