Another excellent shot. I love the way the cardinal is tipping her head and the look in her eye. You have a very good feel for birds and you obviously know how to capture the personality of your subjects!

 

The DOF is just right, too. It looks like the background would have been too distracting had it been in focus, but you've rendered it well.

Kim, Bird portrait to die for! Hope you've printed & displayed some of these. Top notch! Soft, detail revealing lighting, non distracting background,& excellent subject placement in the frame. Doesn't get much better than this. Oh yah, focus on the eye & a catchlight to boot. Best, LM.

Thanks, Len - got lucky with these birds in the early spring! We had a bunch of them and our house is up in the trees so I just sat on the porch and waited. This branch is about 5 feet away from where I was sitting and they got brave enough to land and let me shoot a couple of shots before heading for the birdseed!
