NIKON D3200 HAND-HELD TEST SHOT: Distressed Mockingbird on my Other Junky Old Honda

Landrum Kelly

The EXIF data gives the unlikely value of f/13. Since I would never deliberately shoot at f/13, I can only conclude either that that is incorrect or that I inadvertently moved the aperture dial. The shutter speed displays as 1/400 sec, and the ISO was definitely set at 800. Could have happened, I guess. The focal length was 105mm on a 1.5x crop sensor Nikon.

Here is an unprocessed 100% crop.

This shot was hand-held.  The bird was distressed by my very existence on this planet, and so I did the best I could with the limited tools at my disposal: short lens, no tripod.

Here it is with brightness and contrast adjustments, as well as some unsharp mask.

Given that the shot was hand-held, I am not displeased with the results, but I cannot yet tell what the D3200 can do with a tripod.  This was just an opportunistic grab shot.

It could have happened, I guess, but the day was not very bright, and so I am left wondering. . . .

Taken in best moment, We are looking a great picture even thought i think making some edition on green background and making it sharper would make result even better!

Yes, Afshin, the ISO caused the unsharp mask to bead up the details in the bokeh--not good.

Operator error. . . .

Thank you, Gail.  I never thought about whether or not mockingbirds ever made it as far north as Ontario.

To Kill a Mockingbird was certainly set in the South, but I don't guess that I really thought about the bird being a southern bird.  I'll look it up on Wikipedia.
