Love this! Perhaps crop out the head on right (but then again it works with the eyes on the wall.

Nice picture! I like the theme. The eyes on the walls caught my attention first.

I really enjoy the gaze of the boy at the chess board and the two eyes on the wall. It just look like if the panther was observing the game and the player. Nice shot, but the presence of the woman on the right disturbs the composition

This is a gorgeous image caputing a wonderful moment -- agree that the hand at the bottom of the image is distracting -- I would burn this out, and then it is perfect.

Comical with the eyes on the wall. The bottle is quite distracting. The insects seem to fly out of the bottle!

the first thing i noticed was the bottle and the insects, i thought they were flowers...but it made me think of bubbles, like a willy wonka creation or something...then the eyes in the painting which mirror in intensity the boys gaze on the chess board, are they the opponents? the woman seems distant as if shes not playing but observing the two...I agree though that her hand is very distracting, burning it seems like a good idea, but maybe just crop it out...and perhaps crop a little off the left side...very interesting...

Thanks for all of the helpful comments. My kids are semi-serious about their chess. I plan to return here and try re-shooting this. I've added another shot from this sequence to this portfolio.

more a comment on the game than the photo (which i like) -- how do you tell white from black? it appears that both players' pieces are clear glass.... ;-)

Dan, while the photo doesn't show it, the pieces are actually clear glass and frosted glass.

really good picture, one wouldn't think that this was taken in Oregon, it has some exotic touch to it.
