I still have many Images from Ribfest 2011 that I have not

processed. This is one of them. On Saturday nite last year,Juno

nominated band, "The Sadies" were the headliners. A Canadian

Band whose style of 'Country, Psychedelic, Rock and Surf, has

found them with quite a following. With numerous awards and 9

CD's, the word in Music Circles is that they are here to stay. They

entertained an enthusiastic crowd last year. I'm looking forward to

our RIBFEST 2012 this weekend, it is sure to be a good time. Friday

nite's Headliner is well known Juno Award Winner Jack de Keyzer,

whose soulful voice and 'jazz infusesd - electric blues' is sure to wow

the audience. Between the Ribs, Beer Garden, Food Vendors, and

Continuous Live Music, our local DBIA has 'cooked up the Perfect

Recipe'!!! (any visits are truly welcomed, sincere thanks, Gail)

This is one of the first times I've really tried to convert an image to black and white. I know it will take a lot of practice and 'book learning'. For this image I went with a combined Hi-Key/Grunge Look. I altered Blending Modes in Layers, so it is not a tried and true formula. I'm trying to keep notes, as I go along. One day I'd love to do Black and White as good as Ruud. His images are great for inspiration and encouragement. Kind Regards, Gail

Gail, I love the expression of the one on the right -- almost a sneer -- ha!  The whole body of the man on the left is very rhythmic.  I've look forward to your postings

Hi there, he was such a quiet one during the concert, but tonight I googled them and saw a few U Tube Videos where they were singing at Private Functions and he seemed more 'lively'. I think he actually  is 'shy'. But that eveing I also thought he could be tired, these bands do gigs every few days and travel all over Ontario and probably Canada. There are 2 others in the band. I hope to get another photo done soon. Thanks for stopping by Donna!!!

Good job Gail, both with the initial exposure and the processing, including the B&W conversion. A good action image. I can almost hear the notes.

BTW, if you get interested in doing more B&W, Nik SilverEfex Pro is very good for that.

...and I like your new portrait.

I h ave heard that Nik is good, just wondered how good. So now I know. Many thanks Chuck for those words of encouragement, I sure am 'wading' in the shallow end right now!!! Your thoughts always mean a lot to me. Cheers for now, Gail

Just a note; You can download a 15 day free trial version of Nik SilverEfex. Unlike "trial" versions of some software, you can save what you produce in the trial period and it does not watermark the files you use it on.

Many thanks to you both for dropping by and offering your input. Ruud, I know it will be a long time before I do it properly, but I do appreciate your encouragement.

Congrats on your first real attempt at converting to B&W....... not too shabby (smiles).

I like the "starkness" you have created here. Granted, there are a few "blowouts" (guitar fretboard and bass players arm) but that's just me being "picky".

I particularly like the total Black and White..... no shades of grey. Takes me back to my darkroom days of processing weddings and pop groups.... I can even smell the chemicals.

Well done.

Hope you had a good 4th.

Fond regards
