Thanks for viewing/commants! One of my first 4 flashes shot ... not

sure if it's better than 4 flashes since the wings are not frozen. May

be I have too much ambient light (or the background flash, a Vivitar

283 - is causing too much light) - Any thought ?

Its not the number of flashes, its the duration of the flash and the amount of ambient light.  Try and shoot the last hour before dark when the ambient light is low.  Also closer is better as the duration of the flash needed will be quicker.

Thanks Monte! I know it's not the number of flashes but I had thought with lots of flashes that allow me to close down the lens would somehow make the wings definition better. Nope, I got the wings frozen with 1 flash (posted a week or so ago) taken at around 8:30PM and this one was taken at about 8:18PM last night but unlike the previous time I turn on the backyard light to help with focusing (since it's so dark). May be that is causing the bit of the blur ? Good to hear from you! :-)

Nice to be able to cut the ISO down to 100 or 50 with closed-range multiple flashes though. Below is the shot a week or so ago :

Monte! I think you might be on to something there with the mentioning of the distance (even though I am not that far away from the bird). I've been wondering if the cheapy flash trigger (Yongnuo RF-603 C3 2.4GHZ wireless flash trigger) might have some inherent time delay and is time stacking on me between firing off the flashes to cause the blur.

Lose the backyard light.  If you still have wing blur, you'll have to shoot closer, so you can shoot at 1/64 or 1/128 power.  Also the extension tubes may make focusing harder for you.

Thanks Monte! I got some good frozen wings last night by not having the backyard light on and moved closer. I also moved a couple flashes closer and cut the power down to 1/64 but I think the main fix is less ambient light and less delay time for the wireless trigger by moving closer.
